Jessica + Root share a deep commitment to land and community and their wedding weekend encompassed just that.
ZigBone Farm Retreat Wedding
The marriers wed on the beautiful grounds of ZigBone Farm Retreat in Maryland–an LGBTQ+-owned space in the Catoctin Mountains. I immediately connected with them over our shared love for Survivor. It was a treat to drive three hours to the rolling hills of Sabillasville, Maryland in Frederick County.
I couldn’t wait to meet the vendor team they lovingly assembled. I was in awe of Michael Sylvan Robinson’s hand-embroidered elements.
Witch Wedding Rituals
Jessica + Root’s wedding ceremony circle was incredibly intimate with a circle casting. Afterwards, there was a calling of the elements and handfasting. Loved ones in their wedding circle shared touching words to the marriers as the skies started to turn grey. The rain greeted guests with cooler air during social hour and delivered an epic double rainbow before the start of the reception.
The details of the reception and tablescapes were colorful and a joy to photograph. Root thoughtfully organized a queer and trans art display for the bathrooms. The tranquility of the land continued to shine as the sun set in strokes of orange. Fireflies helped guide me to my car at the end of the night, while I was still buzzing from East Coast Soul’s energy.
