Early morning elopements are always such a pleasure. Tara and Alex’s self-uniting ceremony at Awbury Arboretum was no exception. They were joined by their close friend and dog Bear.
After the marriers exchanged vows and rings, we signed their marriage license (always an honor!) and wandered the grounds. As we were leaving, we crossed paths with the Philly Goat Project during their morning walk.
Awbury Arboretum self-uniting ceremony
When Tara and Alex originally reached out to inquire about their self-uniting ceremony, they were open to venue ideas. I love brainstorming Philadelphia elopement location possibilities with folks. They shared how they moved to Philadelphia from Chicago a couple of years ago, so I was happy to share some options.
I explained that some of my favorite elopement spaces require permits or have fees associated with them, including Morris Arboretum, Bartram’s Garden, and Awbury Arboretum. Another favorite, I mentioned, is the stream that runs near the dog park at Curtis Arboretum. Bartram’s Garden, Awbury Arboretum, and Curtis Arboretum were all dog-friendly options, which was important, since they wanted to include their dog, Bear.
The marriers landed on having their winter morning elopement at Awbury Arboretum. We met at 8am near the historic water course on the grounds by the ponds.
Intimate elopement photography
We met back up at Tara and Alex’s home, where we shared mango mille crepe cake from Mango Mango–a new favorite. Bear helped make things official with an inked paw print on their license. Tara crossed off “get married” from their 2025 bingo card and popped some confetti in their living room to celebrate. We wrapped their elopement session with photos on their front stoop. This was such a lovely way to celebrate the couple’s five year anniversary.
