Shira and Marjorie met me for their fall engagement session at a mint-colored bridge over an abandoned railroad track near Kelly Drive.
Philadelphia Museum of Art engagement session
Their first date was at the Please Touch Museum, so it seemed appropriate that we walked to another Philadelphia staple–the Museum of Art–after exploring the trail. I’ve photographed many clients at the Philadelphia Museum of Art and never seem to tire of it. Being able to explore the outskirts of the grounds, including the view of the Schuylkill River, is always inspiring. Beyond the steps that were made famous by Rocky, I typically gravitate to the Azalea Garden and along Kelly Drive, with views of Boathouse Row (and public restrooms at the Lloyd Hall Recreation Center). Up a bit more behind the museum along Sedgley Drive is the historical Lemon Hill Mansion.
Wedding and/or engagement photos at the Azalea Garden, Waterworks gazebo, and surrounding grounds technically require a photo permit for $50-150 per hour, depending on location. (It is prohibited to do photos on the Art Museum steps, but typically for engagement sessions, folks don’t mind.)
I always like to read what folks enjoy doing together as partners, and their list was no exception. They like taking walks in different neighborhoods, driving in cool rental cars, watching tv and eating dinner on the couch, planning their lives together, and mundane things like trips to Costco.
When you meet the right people, experiences that were previously monotonous can end up being the most exhilarating.
Seasons have passed since our Philadelphia Museum of Art engagement session together, but we continue to stay connected, thanks to the power of social media. While many may be against an abundance of screen time, I am grateful for engaging in virtual spaces alongside folks like Shira and Marjorie, who I respect tremendously.
