Kali + Sam | Brooklyn Engagement Session
As much as I love being a photographer, there will always be a large part of me that identifies as an illustrator. I studied illustration in college, surrounding myself with dog-eared volumes of American Illustration and whatever graphic novels I could get my hands on (it was pretty slim pickings in Kutztown, PA).
When Kali and Sam reached out about wedding photography, I recognized their names from some of my favorite illustration blogs. Their eye for color and composition is incredible, so I’m very flattered that they decided to hire me as their photographer.
Since Kali and Sam live in Brooklyn, it was important to them to have their engagement session in some of their favorite neighborhood spots. We started the afternoon in the backyard of Caprices by Sophie in Williamsburg. Four words: lemon. curd. cream. puff.
The street art in Williamsburg made for some dynamic backdrops, which seemed appropriate for these two. I love the colorful explosions of prints and textures.
Our last stop was the rooftop of The Pencil Factory in Greenpoint — home to dozens of illustrators, art directors, and designers I’ve admired for years. The rain didn’t keep us from having an eerily beautiful end to our shoot, with the fog sweeping in across the pastel skyline.
I’m so grateful to have been able to photograph such a sweet supercouple. I can’t wait for their wedding at Colonial Dames in Philadelphia next spring.
